World Book Day 2026 – A Wonderful Celebration of Reading
Our school was buzzing with excitement as we celebrated World Book Day 2026 in style! The place was filled with colour, creativity and imagination as children made a fantastic effort to dress up as their favourite book characters. From classic storybook heroes to modern literary favourites, it was wonderful to see so many beloved characters come to life throughout the school.
The day was packed with engaging activities designed to celebrate our love of books and reading. Both classrooms took part in a variety of language games, paired reading sessions and character description exercises. These activities encouraged pupils to explore stories in new ways while developing their reading, speaking and writing skills.
A special highlight of the day was our Book Tasting event, which was held as part of the launch of our updated library collection. We were delighted to introduce a fantastic selection of new books that were generously gifted by Children’s Books Ireland through the Every Child a Reader programme.
For the Book Tasting, the Senior classroom was transformed into a reading “restaurant”. Tables were set out in café style and pupils were given menus featuring a wide range of exciting books. Children were seated at decorated tables sampling different titles, reading sections of each book and recording their thoughts and reviews. It was a fun and interactive way for pupils to discover new authors, genres and stories they might not have chosen before.
The day was a wonderful celebration of reading and storytelling and it was inspiring to see such enthusiasm for books throughout school. A big thank you to our parents for their incredible effort with their children's costumes and the pupils for their participation.
